The Fontainebleau Miami Beach broke ground on an adjoining event and convention center thanks to a $72.8 million construction loan.

Goldman Sachs Bank provided the mortgage to FB Convention LLC, part of Fontainebleau Development, concerning the development at 4346 Collins Ave. It’s a former parking lot next to the 1,504-room Fontainebleau, the largest hotel in South Florida.

Aventura-based Fontainebleau Construction, which is related to the property owner, recently filed notice with the county that it started work on the five-story conference center. The 50,000-square-foot event center will be connected to the hotel via a sky bridge. It will feature two ballrooms, 10 breakout rooms, and a 9,000-square-foot roof deck.

It should be completed in 2025.

Coral Gables-based Nichols Architects designed the project.

Miami Beach is a popular tourism and convention destination, and the Fontainebleau is one of the city’s busiest hotels.
